Many scientists today are entertaining the idea that we might be living in a simulation. It doesn’t seem far‑fetched or unbelievable. But of course, any simulation would require an intelligent creator—or creators.
What’s amazing to me is that many atheists are willing to accept the possibility that we live in a simulation designed by advanced programmers, yet they automatically reject the idea that God created the universe.
Doesn’t that seem a bit inconsistent? At the very least, you have to admit the two explanations are equally possible. There is no good reason to favor the simulation theory over the God hypothesis.
The truth is that many people don’t want there to be a God who holds them morally accountable. And that is why some forms of atheism deny God and dismiss the evidence of reason. There are strong arguments suggesting that since the universe had a beginning, it must have had a beginner. The universe is filled with design, therefore it must have had a designer. The universe is governed by laws, therefore it must have had a lawgiver.
So, do we live in a simulation? No, I don’t believe we do. Rather, we live in a reality grounded in a higher intelligence beyond our full comprehension. The Ground of Being is unlike anything we know or experience.
